Sixth Graders Learn About Greek Vases

Student drafts of Greek vases

As 6th graders have relaxed and wound down from their amazing work with the wax museum, they have now moved on to their next assignment. In Ms Katie’s English class students have learned the purpose behind Greek vases. Many students made connections to some example vases, explaining how they have seen vases similar to those or how they understood the meaning behind the pictures drawn on the vases.

After studying some vases and reviewing a few mythical stories, students have now been assigned to make a Greek vase of their own. Using the knowledge of the mythological stories we have learned in class, students will create a draft of their own vase. Then, using designs they learned about, they will create a paper mache version of their own interpretation of a Greek vase.
