ECA at Westminster Latino Festival

Join Ms. K and other ECA community members for:

Westminster Latino Festival, presented by the City of Westminster and Produce by El Comercio de Colorado Bilingual Newspaper.  The city is going thru great lengths to help promote culture, inform the community, and support diversity by bringing people and families together to fun and safe events.

It is the 3rd Annual Latino festival in the history of the city. The festival is expected to attract upwards of 15,000 attendees in its 3rd year.  The great response comes from the community and a wealth of positive feedback, Hispanic media, and propaganda.

This year the festival will be at the new train Station.  will be featuring special attractions, Latin live music bands, from reggae to Cuban Fusion, R&B Soul, and Regional Mexican, and some of the most delicious Latino and American food in town. Arvada Police Digital Futures Initiative: Parent Academy @ Pomona High School

Officer Bradley Gagon, Arvada Police Department, is currently serving as a School Resource Officer for ECA. This school year, Arvada PD has started to implement a new educational program called Digital Futures Initiative. This program teaches classes from fourth grade through ninth grade. These classes include: digital safety and good digital citizenship, relationships, substance use/abuse, bullying and cyber-bullying, and distracted driving for the ninth graders. There is also a class to teach kindergarten through third grade about “Friendly Faces Fake Us Out;” the new stranger danger.

A part of this curriculum is an hour and a half class called the parent academy. We are going to start hosting the parent academy once a semester. The spring semester will cover digital safety and citizenship and the fall semester will cover substance use/abuse. There will be a resource fair beforehand where different companies, departments, and agencies will set up booths that have the potential of helping out parents, families, and children. The first academy is going to be held at Pomona High School on Tuesday, April 17th with the resource fair starting at 6 p.m. and the class starting at 7 p.m.

We truly appreciate your help with making this Parent Academy a success. If you have any questions about this academy or the new educational program, please feel free to contact Officer Gagon at bgagon@arvada.org or 720-898-6577.

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences

Parental involvement is one of the single most important ingredients for student success. In that spirit, I would like to invite all of you to attend our Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday, March 12th, from noon-7:00pm.

It is NOT necessary to make appointments in advance. You may come in and speak with whichever teachers you like; though it is our goal to make sure that you have the opportunity to speak to each of your child’s teachers.

Teachers tend to have greater availability earlier in the day so we encourage you to come earlier if possible.

In order to guarantee that teachers have time to speak to all parents, we ask that you limit your conference to 10 minutes in length. If you need to speak with a teacher for a longer period of time or you need to meet with multiple teachers at one time, we ask that you set up a meeting on a separate date by calling the front desk at 720-473-4400.

ECA prefers to use a student led conference model. Having students lead the conference is a powerful technique for helping students take ownership for their learning and leads them to develop critical self-advocacy and communication skills. If at all possible, we ask that parents bring their students with them to make this student led model a success.
